The sixth IDEA-KING Awards, with its selected theme of "Boundary Wall", is not merely an appropriate response to "Several Opinions on Futher Strengthening the Construction of Urban Planning by Central Comittee of CCP" document, but a guidance to discuss on Chinese urban problems and theoretical solutions. For over 30 years, along with the rapid urban development and scale expansion in China, some urban problems appear at the same time. The low operational efficiency of the city and the environmental deterioration seriously affect people's lives. It has been said that, by removing those sweeping walls of the unit communities and residential areas, to improve the urban mobility and resource utilization, promote communication between different social classes, create a beneficial formation of convenient, scale appropriate, perfect supporting, neighborhood harmonic and dynamic community, thus to facilitate the establishment of the livable Chinese modern cities. However, opinions also raised by someone against the logic removing the walls in our country. With "One size does not fit all" theory, they consider the Boundary Wall-removing problem cannot be generalized. Whether or not the walls should be removed, what we remove and what we keep bring great challenges to the landscape theories and practices. The city is a huge complex system. None of the landscapers, architects and urban planners can bear building it well alone. The extensive cooperation between each subject should be developed. However, for a variety of reasons, the "Academic Walls" between each profession have been observed widely across the multidisciplinary network. How to break through the walls?  This is the intention of the subject, from which we hope inspiring people to discuss in the internationals Idea-King Awards competition this year.

Therefore, we would like to invite the students, designers and the relevant insiders all across the world to join our Wall-themed design competition showing your customized landscape program under the new urban circumstances, and in the face of the new challenges in the process of urban development and enjoying the professional communications at the same time. We encourage the professional landscape designers and students to team up with the professionals in other fields in this competition, in a real sense, to break through the "Academic walls" and present your worthy purposes for sustainable development of our living environment.
